Have An Idea?

Imagine
a K9Nation Kommunity where you live.

21st century telecommunications empower K9Nation Citizens, whoever they are and wherever they live, with the ability to create a voice that will be heard, an influence that will be felt, and a capability that will get things done.  By connecting and staying connected with others who share a common passion for our best friends, K9Nation is taking the lead in animal welfare reform—both nationwide and locally—with a dynamism and potential unheard of until today.  The public has the ability to unite in the numbers required to pursue the greatest challenges, and to achieve the highest goals never before possible.  Thank you for supporting your K9Nation.

The Role of The Kommunity

Thinking small will not put an end to the killing. Thinking in the box will not put the perpetrators of violence where they belong. Thinking conventionally will not put puppy mills out of business.  K9Nation decided to think big and accept the challenges to end suffering and control the cruelty inflicted on America’s companion animals. “Big” means the tens of millions of us who really care working together wherever we live. We can best pursue our mission and accomplish or goals by working not only on the national level, but on the local level, too. Local units of K9Nation are the Kommunities that connect hometown and neighborhood compassionate and caring people who’ve had Enough!

It’s a network of K9N Kommunities all across America that will amplify our voices and enable us to accomplish great and wonderful things for our dogs and cats that have never been done before. Leaders need to step forward to establish local Kommunities, volunteers need to do whatever they can to help the local effort, and we all need to support a K9N Kommunity wherever we live.

“Individuals can make a difference, but together we can make the difference. That difference is between the cruelty and killing that is the status quo of today, and the end to this pain and heartache that is the paradigm of tomorrow.”
--Rodney Hill, K9Nation founder

What is a Kommunity?

K9Nation Citizens living in a particular location make up that location’s Kommunity. The location may be a city or a section of a city, a town, or perhaps a county. This is where caring K9N Citizen volunteers do the majority of K9Nation’s good works referred to as the “local effort.”

A Kommunity activates K9Nation’s action plan under the leadership and guidance of the Kommunity Director and a Citizen Advisory Board. Kommunities do not have regular meetings because communication is done by way of telecommunications including a Kommunity’s Web site. Citizens may, however, meet for special events, social gatherings, committee meetings, or for informational presentations and speakers.

K9Nation was founded and organized to put local care and protection of our best friends into the hands of compassionate and caring people. A Kommunity enables anyone to play a part—big or small—as a volunteer in any of K9Nation’s six areas of operations:

    • Education
    • Resclue & Adoption
    • Legislation
    • Certification
    • Research
    • Support

Education goals in every Kommunity include creating greater responsibility among pet owners in order to foster permanent homes, the animal-human bond, and to help in overall stabilization of pet overpopulation. Volunteers get involved with schools at all levels, resource persons, special events, student workshops, and community activities that further the understanding, respect, value, responsibilities, and pure joy of having a dog or cat and ensuring its care and well-being. Volunteers may train to conduct learning activities including workshops, educational presentations, and community education classes.

Rescue & Adoption goals in every Kommunity include support for local R&A organizations and public animal control agencies that work with K9Nation. Any lost, abandoned, neglected, or otherwise needy dog or cat will have safe refuge at any time of any day through K9N’s Shelter Auxiliary and Public Services. Each Kommunity participates in a national network of Emergency & Rescue Response for local emergencies (fires, domestic disputes, accidents, etc.) in which a pet is at risk, as well as natural disasters requiring national or regional coordination. K9Nation’s Kommunities provide equipment, housing, supplies, and efficient rescue response.

Kommunities are vigilant for cruelty and abuse working with law enforcement to ensure the safety of our companion animals. Observing, investigating, and intervening on behalf of defenseless dogs and cats is the purpose of each Kommunity Watchdog Task Force, and local K9NBI (K9Nation Bureau of Investigation) participants.

Legislation
goals in every Kommunity include monitoring and evaluating local anti-cruelty and other pet-related issues; following and reporting on legislative, referendum, and initiative activities relating to our best friends; organizing and motivating public involvement; and maintaining communication with city and county councils, state legislatures, and U.S. representatives and senators.

Certification
goals in every Kommunity include enforcing any certification that K9N Citizens may decide upon. For example, if the breeder certification program were to be adopted by K9N Citizens, Kommunity volunteers would help to promote, monitor, and enforce.

K9N Citizens may undertake training to become certified in a variety of fields to help their Kommunity and its animals.

Research
goals in every Kommunity include the gathering of facts, data, and information relating to K9Nation’s mission in order to accurately evaluate problem areas and needed attention. Local volunteer researchers investigate, interview, and contribute to K9Nation’s accumulation of material that we hope will become the most definitive, accurate, and up-to-date in the field.

Support
goals in every Kommunity include maximizing public involvement through financial donations, and contributions of service as volunteers. Besides raising money and encouraging service, Kommunity volunteers may serve as K9N Ambassadors for the Awareness Movement, and the Spay & Neuter Offensive.
